What's it like in Mijas?

Set on a majestic plateau high above the Costa del Sol, marking a midway point between Málaga and Marbella, this charming whitewashed village effortlessly blends traditional and modern life in an atmosphere that offers a pleasantly laid back alternative to the bustling urban centres below. An ideal balance of contemporary Costa del Sol living and Andalusian heritage, Mijas attracts those in search of a slice of Spain's past without having to leave the present behind. Within the village of Mijas, tradition abounds with shops and cosy cafes painting a beautifully nostalgic picture of southern Spanish life.

Relaxed plazas and lush parks and gardens welcome visitors and residents with equal warmth and hospitality, providing some of the most breathtaking panoramic views you are likely to find on the Costa del Sol. Whether you are more partial to the dramatic slopes that rise up above the town or the seemingly endless foothills laid out beneath, Mijas' vistas have something for everyone. Despite its small size and population of just over 7,500, the town lays claim to a burgeoning arts and culture scene, complete with local crafts as well as contributions from the large international community that have come to call Mijas home. While decidedly a mountain village, Mijas is located just a short drive from the Costa del Sol's endless stretch of coastline and marinas as well as a number of shopping and leisure centres, attending to every need imaginable.

Healthy, wealthy and wise

Thanks to a rather large proportion of international residents, Mijas Pueblo is amply equipped to cater to non-Spanish residents with a host of civic, medical and educational services, including a friendly and helpful Foreigners Department, located within the town hall. Minutes from the coastal highway, Mijas provides quickly accessible medical care at the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella and to the east at the Torremolinos Hospital, though less pressing needs can be taken care of at any of the town's chemists, health centre or private clinics. In addition to the nearby St. Anthony's College, Mijas offers a number of opportunities to attend schools offering international curriculum including the Benalmádena International and British Colleges and Torremolinos' Sunnyview School.

Stepping out

Those living in Mijas Pueblo do not have to travel far to enjoy a day out as the bustling town centre provides a wealth of dining and shopping opportunities as well as a large number of cultural institutions celebrating the region's rich past. Museums, such as the Casa Museo cast a spotlight on the town's cultural and agricultural history, dating back to Roman times, while the Mijas Wine Museum surveys the region's burgeoning wine industry, as well as providing tastings throughout the day. Mijas' parks and gardens also provide stunning locations for a series of local fairs and festivals, including an international drama festival held each summer in the town's outdoor theatre, followed by an annual fair celebrating the town's patron saint each September.

Ideally located between Andalucía's mountain and beach side landscapes, the town also offers quick and easy access to enough events to keep one's calendar filled for months. While local sports facilities are available for use, those searching for additional activities such as sailing, horse back riding and golf need not travel more than a few minutes to find them; especially considering the Mijas Golf Valley is home to more courses than anywhere else on the entire coast, including the Los Lagos and Los Olivos courses at the Mijas Golf Club.

The views will simply take your breath away! Fanning out before you is the beautiful sparkling bay offering views of lush greenery, azure seas and the peaks of Gibraltar and Africa in the distance.

Here, you have a world of your own. With luxury houses and detached villas, each with their own unique style and with the choice of having your own private pool or alternatively a large garden, your own tailor-made home is within reach.

The finest materials, the most exquisite attention to detail and the exuberant landscapes all come together to create one sumptuous entirety, one that brings together the quality, luxury and status of a private residence.

Located on the hillside in Buenavista, between Mijas and Benalmadena, overlooking the mystical Mediterranean Sea, where beautiful sunsets are legendary. A short distance away is the famous Benalmadena Port with its fantastic waterways and bustling restaurants and shops and the amazing shopping centre of Malaga is only 20 minutes away. With Malaga Airport only a 10 minute drive away, these residencies would even make an ideal weekend retreat.
