Brazil is South America’s largest country covering an area of 3.3 million square miles which includes the dark immensity of the Amazon rainforest. The country has it all - sunshine, beaches, nature, a vibrant culture, history and 8,000 kilometers of coast – not to mention the Brazilians’ talent for having fun, especially when it is time to strike up the music and dance. It’s the only Portuguese-speaking country in South America and the world’s 11th largest economy. Both the Equator and the Tropic of Capricorn pass through Brazil and most people live along the coastline. Its north-east coastline in particular is considered the most beautiful in the country. Flying time from UK and European airports is approximately seven hours. For Europeans, and later Americans, Brazil has long been a symbol of escape and renewal – to tropical beaches, primordial rainforest and endless rivers – to say nothing of the energy and joy of a people who created the extravagant passion of the Carnival. Brazil became an independent Republic in 1889 after 300 years of rule by Portugal. Thanks to its rich history, it’s a truly multi-racial country with the mix of European, American, African and Asian peoples often combined in a single individual rather than separated into different communities. Brazil’s GDP is set to more than double by 2025, moving the country up the economic ranks up to become the world’s eighth largest economy. In recent years the authorities have realised the importance of tourism, and last year alone 210,000 new jobs were created in the sector. In just one year, three quarters of a billion dollars have been spent improving the infrastructure, including airports, roads and drains, recovering the country’s heritage and protecting its environment. In total 5.5 million tourists visited Brazil in 2005, half as many again as in 2002 and there is huge potential for more. In fact, the Government’s National Tourism Plan aims to attract over nine million foreign tourists annually. Vibrant, dynamic and with its economy coming on in leaps and bounds, Brazil is the latest exciting investment location edging its way up to the top of the popularity stakes. With its exciting cities and idyllic coastlines, Brazil has it all, and its north-east coast in particular, often considered the country's most beautiful coastline, has been attracting increasing interest amongst tourists and investors. Properties in Natal are available at surprisingly low prices for such an idyllic location. |
